McAleer & Rushe are delighted to congratulate Connor McMahon, who has been named Silver Winner in the prestigious ‘Construction Manager of the Year, Commercial & Leisure’ category at the 2025 CIOB Awards.
This well-deserved recognition reflects Connor’s outstanding leadership, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment to excellence throughout the delivery of City Square House, a landmark 12-storey office development in Leeds, constructed by McAleer & Rushe.

The success of City Square House is a testament to Connor’s ability to combine architectural insight with strategic project management. From the early stages, Connor demonstrated expert planning and coordination, navigating a complex and constrained city centre site with remarkable precision.

Faced with challenges such as working on a previously piled plot and managing the impacts of subcontractor insolvencies, Connor delivered creative logistical solutions while maintaining momentum and quality throughout. His leadership not only ensured successful project delivery but also set a new standard for commercial construction.

At practical completion, 85% of the building was already pre-let, highlighting the strength of the team’s delivery and stakeholder confidence. Connor’s proactive and solutions-driven mindset also led to the award of a further fit-out for two additional floors, a reflection of the trust he built with project partners and clients alike.

This accolade not only highlights Connor’s excellence but also reflects the calibre of talent across McAleer & Rushe. We’re proud to have also had the following colleagues shortlisted at this year’s CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards:

  • Mark Brady, The Silver Yard, Birmingham – High Rise Accommodation
  • Stephen McGinty, The Brixton Hill Project – Low Rise Accommodation
  • Paddy Connolly, Vita Bruce Street – High Rise Accommodation

Connor, Mark, Stephen and Paddy have each demonstrated not only outstanding construction delivery but also the ability to build lasting relationships, lead high-performing teams, and drive value for clients and communities.
Congratulations to Connor and all the shortlisted finalists, a fantastic representation of the strength and expertise within McAleer & Rushe.
