Studied Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management at Ulster University. Joined McAleer & Rushe as a Placement Student in June 2016 and as a Graduate in May 2018.

I completed my placement year with McAleer & Rushe and have returned as a graduate.

My placement year was extremely useful as it touched on many aspects I had been taught in theory such as measurement, contracts, tendering packages etc. Being able to see how they are practically implemented was hugely beneficial as this was the first time I was exposed to surveying and made me excited at the prospect of completing University and returning to McAleer & Rushe as a graduate.

I now have been given the opportunity to manage a project alongside a Senior Quantity Surveyor.

The most valuable part of the Graduate Programme for me was being given the responsibility to analyse the cost of the project from the initial stages and taking the subcontractors through to final account stage, closing out any anomalies or issues whilst knowing that I have a Senior Quantity Surveyor at hand for support and guidance.

Studied Energy & Building Services Engineering at Ulster University. Joined McAleer & Rushe in August 2017 as an M&E Co-ordinator.

I have been involved in two key projects to date; a 750-bed student accommodation and a 17-storey office block. As a new Graduate, I found the mentoring scheme really helped me settle into my role. My mentor explained the value of attending meetings with subcontractors and the site management team.

I soon came to realise the importance of these meetings as they helped me to understand all the different facets of the project not just my own role.

With this knowledge I was able to anticipate installation dates for utility and electricity connections, an imperative element to all projects. I found it rewarding knowing that I have played a part in shaping a project from installation to commissioning. I feel I have grown in confidence personally and professionally and this has been rewarded by McAleer & Rushe, as they have given me full control and responsibility of a project having completed the Graduate Programme.

I have been involved in 3 key projects to date, including,a 393 bed Student Accommodation and 2 large Hotel projects in Dublin. I am enjoying my ongoing journey with McAleer & Rushe and have gained a wealth of onsite experience.

My role has included setting out, using state of the art modern technology, as well as dealing first-hand with subcontractors and ensuring they carry out works as per specification.

I have grown in confidence and now conduct meetings with Design Teams, Architects and Structural Engineers. I was lucky to have the support of great Site Managers and Project Managers and I enjoy learning from their experiences knowing I am able to approach them for advice.

Studied Construction Engineering & Management at Ulster University. Joined McAleer & Rushe as a Graduate Engineer. Within 5 years progressed from Assistant Site Manager to Site Manager, and now to Project Manager.

I have been involved in 3 key hotel developments in London and Aberdeen. When I joined McAleer & Rushe as a Graduate Engineer I was mentored by the Site Manager and given the opportunity to be involved from day one. I gained invaluable experience as I was involved in setting out piles, foundations and moved on to vertical elements of the concrete frame.

I was assigned specific health and safety responsibilities and together with the rest of the site team, everyone played their part in fulfilling the McAleer & Rushe ‘Think SM&RT’ safety system.

I learnt how to use different surveying equipment, became involved in the ordering and management of materials and worked closely with the commercial, buying and site logistic team. As project completion approached, I assisted with internal fit-out and was trained on how quality was maintained throughout each trade.
