- Paul Marlow Construction Manager Of The Year 2016
- Margaret Conway Construction Manager Of The Year 2017
I joined McAleer & Rushe in 2008 after graduating from University of Ulster with a degree in Quantity Surveying.
In my initial years with the company, I found working with a mentor was a great foundation which provided me with the tools and knowledge I needed to manage my first project.
In 2012 I led my first project which was the Moorfield Hotel on the Shetland Island. This was a truly innovative project, as all 100 hotel bedrooms were fully manufactured in Northern Ireland and then shipped for onsite assembly.
I project managed the first ever student accommodation scheme for McAleer & Rushe, a 759 bedroom in Angel Lane Stratford, London. Following this success, I have managed further student accommodation projects in Edinburgh and Liverpool.
From entry level McAleer & Rushe has offered me multiple opportunities and responsibility.Their approach to staff development and training played a huge role in me being the youngest ever person to receive the Construction Manager of the Year Award in 2016.
I have since been promoted to become a Contracts Manager and am enjoying this new challenge.
Paul Marlow Construction Manager Of The Year 2016
I joined McAleer & Rushe in 2010 having completed a degree in Construction, Engineering & Management from University of Ulster.
In 2015 I was asked to project manage the construction of a £22m city centre office development for Belfast City Council. As a result of the project’s success I was the first female to be announced as the overall winner for the Construction Manager of the Year Awards in 2017.
As a project manager you have control of many aspects of the project including design, programme and health & safety. It is a hugely challenging role which rewards you with an equal amount of job satisfaction.
What I love most about my role is the variety – every day brings fresh challenges that require innovative thinking and problem solving.
When I joined the construction industry there were very few females. It is so refreshing to see how this has changed. In McAleer & Rushe, we have many talented ladies that work in a combination of office and site based roles and like me, they all love construction!
