McAleer & Rushe have been recognized for its sustainable achievements and environmental excellence at the prestigious Green Apple Awards Ceremony held in the Houses of Parliament on Monday 20th November 2023.

The Brentford Lock West Phase 3 Enabling Works project received a National Green Champion for outstanding land regeneration and a Bronze Green Apple for Habitat & Biodiversity. Canada Water Plot K1 was awarded a National Green Champion for its remarkable biodiversity enhancements. The recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the project teams involved in delivering initiatives that deliver real Environmental improvement.

Canada Water Plot K1

Plot K1 forms part of the 53-acre Canada Water masterplan by British Land and delivers 79 affordable all-electric homes for the London Borough of Southwark. The project surpasses its original target of creating 10% biodiversity net gain, achieving an impressive 866.44% figure determined by specialist ecologists using the Defra calculations. The project team went above and beyond, extending the biodiversity strategy to the wider community, fostering educational learning, and enhancing the Russia Dockland and Steve Hill ecological park.

Brentford Lock West Phase 3 Enabling Works

Situated in a unique waterside setting beside the Grand Union Canal and Robin Grove Recreational Park, the Brentford Lock West Phase 3 Enabling Works project unlocks the final phase of the wider development by Waterside Places, a partnership between Muse and Canal & River Trust.

The project involves the construction of a new bus depot for Metroline and a new pedestrian and cyclist bridge across the Grand Union Canal to increase connectivity within the borough. Encountering various environmental challenges through the course of the groundworks phases, , the team implemented a remediation strategy and a number of Sustainability initiatives to drive down carbon emissions and deliver environmental enhancements.
